University - ‘The best years of your life!’
How many times have you seen that and thought yes I need to experience this?! Uni is advertised and seen as a place where you meet amazing friends, have crazy parties (a few too many), experience all kinds of new things and of course study, we can’t forget the most important. Now, the above are all true. University is definitely a place where you undertake the best, most amazing experiences in your life, ones you will never forget. That being said, it doesn’t mean that the uni life is a bunch of roses. It can be lonely, it can be scary, it can affect your mental health. All us gals want to do is make your uni life as easy and stress free as possible, well we can try can’t we. So, this segment will be giving advice on how to keep your mental health in tip top condition with regards to the struggles a typical student may face. Social media: ‘Is this captain too corny?’ ‘Is it too soon to add them as a friend?’ ‘It’s embarrassing my picture only has this many likes, should I delete?’ ‘Wow! Their life looks perfect, it’s not fair.’ It’s very common to ask yourself some of the above questions when it comes to social media in your lifetime, especially at uni when you want to make good impressions (I know I definitely do). Social media has its upside, but can be detrimental to one’s mental health if used in the wrong way. You start to overthink EVERYTHING. So here are just some examples of how to not let social media get inside you head (so you can focus on the all important studies).
Loneliness: While uni can be sociable, outgoing and busy, it can also be very lonely. Which can result in feeling sad or even depressed. You may have loads of friends, have joined multiple societies but still feel lonely or you may feel like you haven’t met people similar to you and that you are alone - but you are never alone.
